PRAGUE, ART DECO & ART NOUVEAU BUILDINGS IN PRAGUE 6 & 7

There is an area in Prague that is a treasure trove of early 20th century buildings with Art Nouveau and Art Deco facades or elements. These buildings are on almost every street in the area and on some streets, five or more such facades can be found.

They have not the grandiosity of the Municipal House or, Grand Hotel Evropa and Koruna Palace on Wenceslas Square. However, they are unmistakably and uniquely Art Nouveau or Art Deco elements (some seem to be a blend of both).

Where is this area of Prague that contains this cluster of such buildings? They are certainly not in any of the tourist destinations but not in the fringes of Prague. The area is in Prague districts 6 and 7, which are located across the Vltava and north/northwest of Old Town - falling within the working class suburb of Holešovice stretching west to the district of Bubeneč. Most of these buildings can be found in Holešovice and the stretch sandwiched between Letná park (Letenské sady) to the south and Stromovka Park (Královská obora) to the north. Here is the approximate location

I must now confess that apart from a few buildings along the street Dukelských Hrdinů in Holešovice, I viewed not even one of the other buildings in the list below, which I have only just gotten to know about via Google street map searches. Thus, this post is going to be mostly addresses and location links.

Buildings which I believe are unique and aesthetic delights are marked with *, ** or *** in order of attractiveness. All subjective opinions of course.

We begin in Holešovice on the street Kostelní, along the entire main street Dukelských Hrdinů, and then westwards towards Bubeneč. The street names are followed by the building numbers.
